New South was produced by MFA and PhD students at Georgia State University. Previously known as The GSU Review, we published new fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and art from 1975-2023. Works first appearing in New South have been anthologized in Best American Poetry, New Stories from the South, Best Small Fictions, New Poetry from the Midwest, and noted in Best American Short Stories and Best of the Net.
New South is now on hiatus indefinitely. If this news is as discouraging to you as it is to us, please ensure that the universities you may be affiliated with know how much you value their literary magazines (if applicable) and encourage them to continue funding their literary projects.
